When we tell people that we are living in Siberia, we usually get a blank stare for about half a second as pictures of gulags and freezing winters pass through their mind. Followed usually by a, "You're going where?"
After spending the summer of 2003 in Siberia, we saw firsthand the need for church planting in the vast region. Hopelessness is widespread, and alcohol and animism (nature worship) are common ways to fill the void. Following that trip, God placed a passion in our hearts to show the people of Siberia that Christ alone brings eternal hope!!!
In 2007, InterAct Ministries asked us to consider ministering in the republic (Russian state) of Tuva in Siberia. Tuva is located in south-central Siberia, surrounded by mountains and rugged terrain. Although we will minister to any people we meet in Tuva, our focus would be centered on the native Tuvan people as opposed to the ethnic Russians who live mainly in the large cities.
We will begin by studying language and culture at Novosibirsk State University for the first year or two, and then move into a full-time church planting role in Tuva We, along with a team of other missionaries, will be working to strategically on assisting a church planting movement throughout Tuva.
